Whats your talent: Hip-Hop Artist, Producer, Writer, and Engineer
Describe yourself as an artist in 3 words….
Clever, Humble, Confident
“When I was four years old, I took an interest in percussion. I loved playing the drums for my grandparents church and I had a passion for marching and concert band up until my freshmen year of college at Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, FL.”
“My family is my music. I feel like the best songs that I have written have been the ones that were directed towards a particular family member.”
“Even though I from the south I took a strong interest in artist in the Midwest. Bone Thugs, Twista, R. Kelly, Da Brat, Ludacris. Producers would have to be Timbo the King and the Neptunes.”
“I’m a percussionist for life!! I have a strong interest in Network Administration and computers. When it comes to my music career, there are so many things that I am capable of doing, I don’t know where to begin. I try to be as self-sufficient as possible.
Where do you see yourself as an artist in 5 years& what are you doing now to get there?
“From where I came from, I’ll take whatever blessing God has for me. I feel blessed already just to accomplish what I have thus far. I’m just going to remain humble and true to my music and my art.”
What would your dream collaboration be?
This one is so difficult to choose but it would have to be between my 2 favorite producers, Timbaland and The Neptunes. If you see them tell them they need to get at me while I’m here in VA Beach!!
“My favorite song would have to be one I wrote called “Anywhere” produced by Kingsmen. This song lets people know that God is the reason why I am where I am.”
Which song has the most sentimental meaning to you?
“A song no one will ever hear called “Fire Within”. The song was written by wife about her past relationship and to me it had to be the best song that I feel I’ve ever produced. From that point on she became a muse in my music.”
What type of artist do you aspire to be?
“I just want to keep it clean. I feel like non-explicit music, especially Hip-Hop/Rap, can still compete with the explicit music you hear today and I want to prove that.” Do you ever get stage fright?
“I’ve been performing too long to know what stage fright is. I do get nervous but once I touch the mic, I don’t want to look like a joke.” Describe your performing experience..
“The main thing I don’t want to do is forget the words to any song. The most important thing about performing live is connecting with the crowd. From experience I always like to see what the audience is feeling to determine what I can and can’t do on stage.”
“Just ready to bring Good Music and Real Talent back on the music scene.”
FOCUSING ON THE EYE BEHIND THE LENS …. We were fortunate enough to be able to interview the talented photographer, Ric Hicks. Some of you may also know him as Mr. Amoré ; the mastermind behind “Amoré Imaging “. We asked Mr. Amoré a few questions so we can get a better understanding for the eye behind the lens…
“My talent seems to be bringing out the best in the people I work with. Opening them up to show who they were born to be. Ya know, everyone has a genuinely good & pure side underneath the exterior that each person’s life’s circumstances has sculpted. I find that pureness, and show it to them.”
“My daughter is what sparked my real interest…. just being a proud & competitive father, I wanted her pictures to be better than “school” pictures. lol So I bought what I thought was a good camera and started filming her and snapping pics crazy… Never knew it would evolve into what it has… God is good.”
“My family is definitely a big inspiration and support system for me. Without them (wife & daughter) I wouldn’t really have anything to strive for, or anyone to prove anything to. Wouldn’t have anyone to make proud really. They motivate me. I need them.”
“My grandmother is my biggest inspiration. She is almost 90, born & raised in VA through some very racist and hard times. She raised her tribe of kids alone after my grandfather died at an early age from tuberculosis and she has never complained about any of it. I am trying to learn from her. I want to be remembered by loved ones like I will always remember her. I have a long way to go, but if I start improving now, maybe I still can.”
“I must say, I eventually get pretty good at most things I jump into… I am self taught though, so I hit a few more walls than some would who may come in with a mentor or have formal training. I have always been into art in one form or another. I draw, write, cut hair very well. Recently I started to paint. I am very pleased with the results. Each talent or outlet seems to help the other develop more. Like Drake said, “It’s only been three years, look at how I’ve grown….” I want to see what I’m doing in 3 more years. YIKES!!! “
Where do u see yourself as an artist in 5 years& what are you doing now to get there?“Honestly, I plan to go back to my initial passion, which is film. I want to do more documentaries on social issues here in the states and abroad. I cannot wait to get back to the middle east. (LOVE IT THERE!!!) There are so many issues that need to be brought to the forefront, and with the digital age and file-sharing age like it is, now is the time to get some good content circulating.”
“I will never totally stop taking pictures, although I’m sure the subject matter overall will change drastically. I feel that I need to do more relevant work. Pretty work is good and fun, but I want to help bring awareness to a lot of “not so pretty things” we all live with. God gives you a talent not just to feed your family with, but to HELP mankind in someway. I HAVE to do whatever I can do to chip in. Issues like rape, poverty, hate for race, religion, sex etc have been projects I have worked on in the past and definitely will do more of.”
“My favorite work to date, would have to be a painting I did of a lovely young ballet dancer, Tatyana Grant. She has been dancing all her life and recently I had the opportunity to take some pictures of her. Some were so good to me that I started a painted series of them… It has totally changed my focus from photography to painting for now. Photographers, you guys can breathe easy for the moment. lol”
“I also recently painted a lovely portrait of my daughter… it is the best work I have ever done thus far, and I just hope that my grandchildren will have it their house one day when my daughter is old and grey. It’s just a candid of my daughter captured in her innocence, it really makes me smile. I’m hoping to have created an heirloom and past it down for multiple generations. (It has to be better than the high blood pressure &poor eyesight my parents passed down to me, right? lol)”
Describe your state of mind while doing a shoot & editing?“Honestly each shoot dictates my state of mind. If it is MY shoot, I am more excited of course, but shooting & editing something for someone is always rewarding to see them so happy about the process and the finished product.”
If someone wanted to reach you for a shoot,
how could they do so ?
Just say my name in the mirror, and I’ll appear like Candyman.
